MARIA GIULIA CONTATORE

Maria Giulia Contatore is a lawyer specializing in intellectual property law and art law at the law firm BIPART, where she is developing specific expertise, dealing mainly with trademarks and other distinctive signs, design, media and know-how, copyright law, and the protection and enhancement of cultural property and works of art. The programme is also preparing her to provide in-house advice and assistance on contractual and advertising law issues to ensure compliance with applicable laws and risk mitigation, and on those related to the fashion, creative, and cultural and arts event industries.

Befor joining BIPART, Maria Giulia worked at leading law firms, including the law firm LCA, where she gained a solid background in corporate, commercial and bankruptcy litigation and business crisis law. In addition, she completed an 18-month training internship at the Court of Milan, during which she had the opportunity to actively participate in numerous cases related to counterfeiting. 

Maria Giulia graduated in Law from the LUMSA University of Rome, presenting a thesis on International Law: “New Trends and Current Problems in International Protection of Cultural Heritage,” focusing on the role of international institutions and European policies in safeguarding cultural heritage and cultural property.

Driven by a passion for art and cultural heritage, she took the course in International Art and Cultural Heritage Law: “Cultural Heritage in the International Criminal Court. Moral Rights & Role of Museums” at St. John’s University in Rome. 

In addition, Maria Giulia deepened her knowledge in the legal field of fashion by attending the Postgraduate Course in Fashion Law at the University of Milan.

Associations and other activities:

Maria Giulia is also an active advocate for gender equality in the professional sphere and is a member of an association dedicated to the empowerment of young professional women.

Since 2017, she has been a volunteer with FAI (Fondo Ambiente Italiano), a nonprofit foundation with a mission to protect and enhance Italy’s heritage of artistic, historical, and scenic interest. Every year she takes part in the FAI Youth Group in Milan, welcoming and accompanying visitors on guided tours of picture galleries, museums, collections and private palaces.
